Melting Point
This project was an editorial illustration of an article describing Antarctica's melting Larsen Ice Shelf. I wanted to capture the fragile nature of the glaciers being threatened by the actions and lifestyle choices of humans. In this image, Antarctica is in the center of the globe, and a factory churning out smoke is placed on a land mass at the top of the globe. The ocean water surrounding the factory is tainted with dark spots that seep into the waters around the glacier. The globe itself is melting which represents both the culmination of negative consequences and the ripple effect of human actions on the planet. I decided to create this as a black and white image to reinforce that environmental justice itself is a black or white issue.
